AHIMA Professional Practice Experience Workbook

Exercise 59 Requestor Type Drop Down Menu CIOX e-SmartLog will be sunset from AHIMA VLab on June 1, 2020. Use of dropdown menus in a system has many advantages: • Allows for structured data entry which enables report generation and statistics gathering on data fields. Example: most frequently requested delivery method • Facilitates appropriate processing of data (such as ROI requests) • Limits the data that can be entered in a field • Makes data entry easier, especially on mobile devices • Helps to prevent errors in data entry • Restricts the number of locations for entering data Users can create custom requester types, but it requires that a standard type be linked to it. For example, if a user wanted to create a requester type for malpractice lawyers, the standard type would be Attorney followed by a dash and the name of the custom requester. Example: Attorney – Attorney Malpractice. Cascading dropdown menus, also known as dependent dropdown lists, limit the choices in a second dropdown list based on the value selected in the parent list. In other words, the value selected in the first drop down list determines the specific values to be displayed in the second drop down list.
